Drummer and co-founder of the successful 60’s band Manfred Mann, who achieved 18 chart successes before they disbanded in 1969. Mike and Manfred then formed the jazz influenced band Chapter Three. Mike Hugg shed the drums and took up keyboards and vocals. They toured Europe and the USA and played with Janis Joplin and Jefferson Airplane. The band broke up after two years with Mike and Manfred going their separate ways.
Having written the music for the film Up the Junction it was a natural progression to work more in this field. Mike composed music for many TV shows such as The Likely Lads and hundreds of well known advertising jingles. He worked with the first Computer Musical Instrument, the Fairlight, when it emerged in the early eighties, doing studio sessions and work for TV. The Manfreds reformed and started gigging once again in 1993. They regularly tour the UK, Europe and Australia.
Despite the diversity of Mike’s musical career his interest in jazz has not diminished. He has recently put together PBD a three piece group, playing his own compositions which reflect influences from many musical genres.
